Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer Neuer is the obvious choice in goal because he is both a goalkeeper and an outfield player.
Defender: Philipp Lahm Philipp is one of the most intelligent players I know. He's unbelievably consistent and is versatile like nobody else. He is world class at both right and left-back, as well as in defensive midfield.
Defender: Mats Hummels The Dortmund defender is quick, intelligent and calm in dangerous situations. He is also excellent at opening up the play.
Defender: Thiago Silva Silva combines pace, presence, strong tackling and dominance in the air. He also reads the game quicker than most – a top defender.
Defender: David Alaba Alaba is an exceptional player who has the potential to be sensational. He makes the players on the left flank better, although he almost plays better in the middle of the park.
Midfielder: Yaya Touré Touré is a versatile defensive midfielder, who has a good sense of when to run at the opposition and draw a mistake. Touré's role is to win the ball back regularly and start counterattacks. He has everything in his locker – excellent stamina, great reactions, measured aggression and fantastic passing accuracy.
Midfileder: Bastian Schweinsteiger A fit Schweinsteiger is ideal in midfield. With his vision, control, experience and tactical knowledge, Bastian has all the attributes that a midfielder needs. On top of that, there is also his shooting power and strength from set pieces.
Midfileder: Franck Ribéry He's at the peak of his career – he's a world-class player who has learned to work for the team. His dribbling and speed make defences quiver.
Forward: Lionel Messi Messi is the best player since Maradona – he's from another planet.
Forward: Zlatan Ibrahimović To have such a great touch with shoe size 12 is astounding. Ibrahimović will happily take on three players and find a way through. He's always capable of scoring an exceptional goal.
Forward: Cristiano Ronaldo He belongs in every top XI. He's quick, has exceptional shooting ability, strong reactions, excellent ball control and scores goals for fun. What is there left to say?
